The recent restoration of my well and domestic water system

April 28th, 2010

Congratulations and good luck with the establishment of your new water system rehabilitation and maintenance service. The recent restoration of my well and domestic
water system with BIOSTEL products achieved some dramatic results in terms of both water quality and quantity. The results were immediately visible in bathing and laundry uses. BIOSTEL removed the black colored slime and sediments while helping to make our iron removal and reverse osmosis components much more effective. Now that our poorly maintained well has had its initial BIOSTEL service, I definitely see value in establishing a routine maintenance schedule and look forward to your continued excellent service.

Taking showers ‘can make you ill’

September 19th, 2009

An article found on the BBC (http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/mpapps/pagetools/print/news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8254206.stm?ad=1) states that bacteria can be inhaled in the shower and can lead to health issues. From the article:

Showering may be bad for your health, say US scientists, who have shown that dirty shower heads can deliver a face full of harmful bacteria. Tests revealed nearly a third of devices harbour significant levels of a bug that causes lung disease. Levels of Mycobacterium avium were 100 times higher than those found in typical household water supplies. M. avium forms a biofilm that clings to the inside of the shower head, reports the National Academy of Science.

Showers have also been identified as a route for spreading other infectious diseases, including a type of pneumonia called Legionnaires’ disease and chest infections with a bacterium called Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Hot tubs and spa pools carry a similar infection risk, according to the Health Protection Agency.

Biostel Water Services can help clean these water sources by using a safe, non-toxic, environmentally friendly solution that is CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) approved. Throw out toxic chemicals like chlorine and bleach and replace it with our environmentally safe water treatment.

Pool chlorine raises kids’ asthma risk

September 19th, 2009

Swimming in chlorinated swimming pools may increase the risk a child will develop symptoms of asthma, a new European study suggests.

In Monday’s online issue of the journal Pediatrics, researchers found teenagers who spent more than 1,000 hours swimming in chlorinated pools showed more than eight times the risk of having asthma as teens who mainly swam in pools disinfected with another method.

Biostel Water Services has a safe, clean, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly solution to pools and hot tubs that can replace chlorine, and eliminate the dangers that come with using chlorine. We are CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) approved and can sanitize pools without the need of harsh chemicals.

Green your water well back to clean!

September 7th, 2009

The Alberta Government estimates 75% of water wells have microbial contamination. The good news is most of these wells can be corrected by Biostel water services. Biostel water services are CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) approved, non-toxic, environmentally friendly, no negative after-effects, non-caustic, safe, and the average service time is 2 - 4 hours. Our regular maintenance program will keep your well pure, fresh, and SAFE, year after year.

Concern for our environment and our health has us all thinking green but we should also be thinking clean. Our water supply is our most precious resources, and used by all living organisms to sustain life. It is constantly put in jeopardy! We take this precious commodity for granted and, too often, it can lead to dire consequences. Many researchers feel the chemicals added to make water safe are actually contributing to our health problems.

Country water wells are exempt from the protocols of urban water systems—this could be a blessing in disguise, as the rural water sources have not been treated with chlorine. It also could be a serious determent to our health. The concern is to provide a safe drinking source for both humans and animals. Rural wells require regular testing and regular treatment to eliminate harmful bacteria and pathogens. Almost all wells have some degree of contamination as many of these microorganisms occur naturally in the aquifer. Others may be introduced by surface water flooding or seepage into the well or aquifer.

Water well quality can be categorized into the following topics; bacteria and pathogens, biofilm, quantity and flow, and mineral content. Mineral content denotes the elements found in the water. Consumers are usually aware of the calcium (hardness) of the water resulting in possible white scale. Taste and odour can be affected by excess iron. Filter systems can typically deal with most mineral issues successfully. Quantity, flow rate and mineral content are aquifer dependant. What users can control are the bacteria, pathogens, and biofilm.

Bacteria commonly found in rural water wells includes iron bacteria, identified by a red/brown tinge and an unpleasant taste and odour. Sulphur reducing bacteria is easily recognized by the rotten egg smell. Slime bacteria can increase to such extremes that pumps and lines can be compromised. The coliform content is tracked and analyzed because these are your most harmful bacteria, such as E.Coli, Salmonella and Legionella. All of these microorganisms (bacteria) attach themselves to a water-surface interface and immediately start to colonize with multiple other bacteria species resulting in a living organism called biofilm—a gel-like substance that feeds, houses, and protects the bacteria. Biofilm is best visualized as the slime on the rocks in a stream, but can form on any submerged surface. Biofilm is very difficult to eliminate because of its protective gel-like properties. High concentrations of chemicals generally have little or no effect on Biofilm and are often not used because they render the water unfit for short term consumption.

The quality of well water usually deteriorates over time even with regular conventional treatments because the Biofilm repopulates bacteria into the water/well, which in turn develops more biofilm downstream in pipes, tanks filters and screens. Water quality and flow rates can be reduced by biofilm. Methods of treating these well systems have been limited and mostly ineffectual until now.

Enter Ivo Wachter and Denis Kennedy of Biostel Water Services; a new Rural Alberta service, based out of Innisfail. They have imported technology from Europe and developed a rural water well treatment system that attacks the Biofilm, as well as the harmful bacteria.

Biostel Water Services uses patented technology from Switzerland involving a multi-step process that is safe, environmentally friendly, bio-degradable, and non-corrosive. It does not create hazardous components or waste. “This process is currently being used throughout Europe as the main sterilent in food processing and bottling plants–reducing hazardous waste, costly chemicals and high energy costs.” said Kennedy. “The average well can be treated within two hours, leaving no strong odours or taste residues and enabling immediate safe human and animal consumption. No more livestock going off water for hours or days” says Wachter.

Kennedy notes that “we have worked with numerous agencies including Ag Canada Lethbridge Research Centre and Alberta Agriculture Airdrie facility to test the basic efficacy of the product. We are now in a position to offer this sanitization process to people who rely on their own rural water supply.”

Wachter goes on to say that “many people ask if this new treatment will affect other water treatment systems such as filters, reverse osmoses, water softeners etc. The answer is that this tool fits into the overall water treatment process very well and supports existing tools to improve the water quality. It controls the bacteria in the water source thus preventing the buildup of Biofilm which stresses and restricts the other systems.”

discoloration on my dishwasher and toilet tanks from the iron deposits is disappearing

May 1st, 2009

We operate a mixed farm at Tramping Lake, Saskatchewan. Our well is 23 years old and we have had trouble with iron deposits, sodium build-up, and sulfur smell in our water for years. We used Biostel Water Services as an alternative treatment for our water issues and what a SUCCESS! Good-bye Brita. Our water no longer smells and has a fresh, clean taste, like spring water. The discoloration on my dishwasher and toilet tanks from the iron deposits is disappearing with the continuing use of the newly treated water running through them. We highly recommend this treatment to everyone.

After six months my wife and I noticed a thick rust colored slime in all the toilet tanks

April 20th, 2009

My wife and I moved to Rosebery British Columbia in the summer of 2007. Our property was not previously occupied and as such required a well. After six months my wife and I noticed a thick rust colored slime very prevalent in all the toilet tanks in the house. Speaking with neighbors we found that two other wells in our immediate area suffered from the same or similar type of slime. These two other households had such significant slime buildup that, in both cases, the slime caused several water pumps to fail and subsequently had to be replaced. The wells in both households were less than one year old at the time. Naturally this caused us concern so we tried shocking the well using chlorine bleach. This effort failed. The bleach had, in fact, no impact whatsoever. After speaking with Biostel we decided to try your product and to our amazement, one application killed off the slime. Our water was drinkable within an hour or so and had no after taste as is the case with chlorine bleach.

My wife and I first want to thank you for an excellent product. This product quickly killed a type of slime bacteria in our water system where conventional shocking of our well with chlorine bleach had no effect. One application was all that was needed. Two months after application we had the water tested though a Provincial laboratory and the results were negative for any and all types of bacteria. To date, eight months have passed and we are still free of slime and there are no indications that this bacteria has returned. We will be making this product a part of a twelve month house maintenance schedule.

“We saw a clear (slight redish tinge) gel building up in our toilet tanks”

April 20th, 2009

We were introduced to Biostel Water Services via our new neighbor from Alberta, who so it happens, is part of the company. We built a new house, and also drilled a new water well; but quickly saw a clear (slight redish tinge) gel building up in our toilet tanks. Even worse, over the first two years we had to replace 3 down hole pumps. Each time we improved the quality of the pump, but we think that the severity of the slime bacteria was increasing over time, as the slime build up on the pump was growing bigger. We replaced the last pump in April of 2006. When we pulled this pump out there was a bag of clear(ish) Gel 6 feet long hanging off of the pump. The pump intake was sealed over with this gel and we are sure the pump burned out for lack of cooling water going through it.

In a casual conversation with our new neighbor in July of 2006, we learned of the Biostel treatment and treated our well immediately. Because of the long hauling distance to Alberta we did not do a full volume treatment, but have done maintenance treatments each summer since. In 2008 we decided to pull our pump before the treatment, just to see how much slime had built up. To our surprise the pump showed absolutely bare metal, not one bit of slime on it.

This is the only “well treatment” that I have heard of, that actually does work 100%, and we have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.

“The water had a smell of rotten eggs”

March 24th, 2009

After purchasing our acreage we discovered we had a problem with our water. The water had a smell of rotten eggs. Anywhere the water sat for a short time a slime coating developed. For example our toilets contained slime as well as the dishes we sued for watering our dogs. We noticed that our dogs became sick from drinking the water once it stood for a while.

The water was saturated with gas; it came out of the tap white. After a full minute a glass of water was still cloudy.

We heard of Biostel Water Services and made the decision to treat our well with this new alternative. After the first treatment the water was clear and smelled fresh by the pressure tank where it came out of the water well. In the house we noticed that the slime was almost gone from any standing water.

We believe that we have contaminants in the lines from the pressure tank to the house, because of the quality of the water we have by the pressure tank and the change till it reaches the outlets in the house.

Because of the success treating the well we decided to treat our well a second time and run the Biostel solutions into the house and break down the contaminants while sitting in the lines.

As a result of the second treatment the smell was completely gone and there was no slime on any standing water. Our dogs became much healthier. We believe our dogs were sick because of the water they drank before we treated our well.

Our experience with Biostel Water Services has been very positive and successful and we would highly recommend this service.

“I began to notice that the water had a strong and defined smell of sour gas”

March 24th, 2009

Six months after drilling my well I had to replace the pump. After completing this replacement I began to notice that the water had a strong and defined smell of sour gas. I decided to have the well shocked with chlorine to see if it would improve the quality of the water. After shocking the well, and pumping it for 2 hours there was no difference in the water quality. I was also unable to drink the water for 3 days. It got that bad that when I had visitors and they used any water in the house, that it caused them to gag, the rotten egg odor was that strong.

I heard from Biostel Water Services from friends about one year after shocking the well with chlorine. I decided to treat my well with this new service available. The well was treated and pumped for 1 ½ hours. During this time, the water was being constantly tested. After this treatment the water cleared up and I was again able to use the water. There is no smell or bad taste to the water for more than 8 months.

The process used by Biostel Water Services is safe and reliable. I felt secure in using the water after the well was treated. I would highly recommend the service offered by Biostel Water Service. I will proactively treat my well every year from now on and will protect my precious water source.

“I feel that the product does and excellent job”

March 24th, 2009

I am Wayne Lewis, I own and operate a truck and equipment repair facility and also operate a small mixed farm operation. The crew at the shop was starting to complain about the water, out of the well that supplies the shop and a residence, it was getting very rusty looking and acquiring an odour. Our new residence water well did not have a great abundance of water and it also had an odour.

I realized that in order to maintain the health and safety of our families and staff we had to address the situation. We talked to Ivo and he felt he could improve on our situation. Ivo and his crew treated both wells with the Biostel Water. He took before and after pictures of the water out of both wells. The shop water was very rusty, almost dirty looking, and the home water was not as bad but it had an odour.

After treating the wells, the shop water was clear, as was the home water and neither well had any odour at all. The crew at the shop noticed it right away also. Ivo also feels that if we continue treating the home water well, we will also increase the water supply out of that well, and I think he is probably right. The most noticeable thing about treating the wells with the Biostel product is that you do not have to pump the wells for hours afterwards to get rid of the chlorine in the well. I feel that the product does and excellent job. Good work Ivo.
